Loaded Boards Symtail Release Renews A Retro Favorite
Party in the front, party in the back? Yup! The Loaded Symtail renews a retro favorite to help you pump, carve and play your way into a more symmetrical future. Are you a fan of the Fattail? Old enough to remember the Loaded Pintail? Aside from the fact you may have slightly greying hair, ha ha, you’re probably ready to try something new and are ready to go both ways. Or maybe you just understand how to have a little fun with Flex and want to get out there and party like you just don’t care, you know, like we did back in 2004! Ha ha…. check out the new Loaded Symtail now!
Can you believe it’s 2024?! No? We can’t either. Nevertheless, we couldn’t be more stoked to be a part of a present day update to a classic favorite from the past. A lot of the newest releases of the past few years have been focused on downhill, dance and even distance – all great things for sure. What we love about this reboot is the focus on fun, not just function. Sure you can push, pump, carve, dance and even bomb some hills with a Symtail, but part of the fun of this board is that it can do all, without being specifically ideal for any one of them. Sounds odd? It should. It’s called wrongboarding and it’s some of the most fun you can ever have. This is where we want to mention the Chinchiller – our current favorite loaded board. The Chinchiller is really not a sport specific longboard. We’re not even sure it’s a longboard. But it is just the most fun. The Symtail gives us this vibe and we can’t wait to play with it any and all ways and allow the board and the environment help influence how we’ll play versus a “sport specific” board focused on playing skateboards a certain way. We feel if we narrow “play” too much by either gear or environment, we get closer and closer to “athletics” (read: Jock Sports stuff), when one of things we appreciate most about skateboarding and Loaded, is a more blank canvas of creativity. That’s definitely not so say anything bad or hold judgement for athletics or athletic pursuits or purists, but we very much the idea of being handed a box of art supplies and invited to create, versus a paint brush and specifically asked to paint. Does that make sense? The Symtail is more like a box of supplies and an invitation versus a sport specific tool of a specific genre.
Feel free to discuss amongst yourselves.
From Loaded:
We proudly present: The Loaded Symtail. Staying true to Loaded’s foundational passion for carving and pumping in a lively flex-camber profile, the Symtail also empowers riders to explore freestyle and dancing maneuvers with its symmetrical shape and nose and tail kicks. It’s a classic concept for a contemporary carver looking to pump and flow through parking garages, city streets, back roads, and anywhere in between.
IT’S RIGHT FOR YOU IF — You want a lively carving and pumping experience in a flexy camber design. If you have an active riding style and want your board to return every bit of energy that you put in. Or even if you like to mix up your turns with some dancing and freestyle flavor.
DESIGN EVOLUTION — The Symtail carries on the board model family heritage that began with the Pintail in 2004 and later became the Fattail in 2011. As dancing and freestyle became increasingly intertwined with carving and pumping, the original board’s once-minimalist tail grew iteratively larger and more function driven with the Fattail and has now sprouted a fully symmetric nasal counterpart with the Symtail in 2024.
FUNCTIONAL DESIGN — The Symtail’s outline shape is designed for a finely tuned and even flex. Mild concave braces your feet for quick carving, while the topmount camber platform provides responsive performance tailored toward an active riding style. Twin-taper shape with generous wheel cutouts provides ample turning leverage while maximizing clearance for loose trucks, deep turns, and a wide range of wheel sizes. The mellow upturned nose and tail feature additional fiberglass reinforcement for stiffer response in freestyle tricks.
COMPOSITE CONSTRUCTION — The Symtail is built with Loaded’s classic snowboard-style composite construction. A vertically laminated bamboo core with triaxial fiberglass skins make the deck light and durable with a lively flex that’s perfect for hard carving and pumping. We also added a top layer of cork for vibration damping and a smoother ride.
SETUP — Our standard build for the Symtail complete includes Paris 165mm 50° trucks and 70mm 80a Orangatang 4President wheels.
SUPER SAP — The Symtail features bio-based epoxy by Entropy Resins which uses bio-based materials from industrial waste streams such as tree sap to replace petroleum content and reduce the carbon footprint of the epoxy from manufacturing. We’ve worked closely with Entropy to enhance every major performance characteristic of the resin. Better for the planet, even more fun.
GRAPHIC — The Symtail graphic represents the latest iteration of an ongoing functional and artistic exploration initiated by the Pintail and continued in to the Fattail.
Now, with the Symtail, Nana Studio curated original artwork by Daisuke Okamoto, taking the narrative another step forward. The Symtail stands as a testament to the continuous journey of growth and transformation, an inspiration to strive for our own individual fulfillment and embrace the interconnectedness of life.
Professor Hildenberger is currently too busy selling knock-off Dune 2 collectors edition popcorn buckets, so our very own Juhyeok Park is filling in to walk you through every thing you need to know about the new Loaded Symtail.
Juhyeok expounds that the Symtail seed has blossomed into a magnificent tree, embodying the ultimate aspirations of life: deep roots for a firm foundation, a solid core for strength, and broad branches reaching out to engage with life, in all its richness.
He’s really into metaphors, so check it out!
What drives the artist to create? When creation and creativity are entwined in the fabric of the artist, can one separate the art from the artist, or are they tied together infinitely until the end?
Symtale dives into these questions and more with Loaded ambassador and Symtail muse Ari Chamasmany. Pulling back the layers to see what inspires him and how community, creation, and skateboarding are all in balance in his life and pushing him forward. By zooming in on the subject, filmmaker Ethan Cochard shows us that inventiveness, expressiveness, and ingenuity of one is very much a product of the many.
Balance and symmetry, forever in tandem, skating boldly into the future.
