Flatspot Weekly 17.08.2016: TSG Force Kneepads, Apex Mountain Challeng, #FlatspotDeckOfTheDay, Annual Chinatown Festival!

Hi! Welcome to the flatspot weekly. This is where you can find a solid overview of everything recently rad and awesome at the shop. Plus some more thrown in here and there.

TSG Force Kneepads

You never expect to need your kneepads, but they can make the difference between skating every day for years or only a few weeks a season. But they also need to take a beating, and the materials of the force kneepads are top notch. The stitching is safely tucked away and the straps are super burly. When you do finally go through the caps, that isn’t the end of the pads life! You can get replacement hard caps for these pads to squeeze every drop of use out of them.

#FlatspotDeckofTheDay: Trapstar and G-mack

You could write a hella swag and straight up gangster novel called The Adventures of TrapStar and G-Mack. But you wouldn’t. Neither would we. In fact its a terrible idea. But they are both epic skateboards, and we think you should take a gander.

The first thing you will notice about the G-Mack is that it is not symmetrical . . . but it IS symmetrical. The only thing asymmetrical about it is the angle of the nose. The concave and wheelbase options on the other hand are entirely symmetrical. This board is wide, rockered, has a SUPER comfy concave, and is silly stiff as a result of the Fat Bottom construction. Uses? Going fast, and going sideways. Check out the set up here.

The key feature of the Trapstar is the Money Pocket. There is a big fat comfy fold towards the front of the board, which makes for an exceptionally comfortable tuck. It also wedges the front truck, making this a directional topmount. If you get a chance to stand on one, do it. Not many boards are so tailored for downhill skateboarding, and we are stoked on this unique and highly specialized design. The formica version is also stiff af and stupidly durable. Apex Mountain Challeng!

The coolest thing about this race? Its the FIRST time anyone has held a sanctioned race here. Its a completely new course, and who knows whats gonna happen! And before you tell us that Challenge has an “E” on the end of it, we know. The handmade trophy was spelt wrong last year, and it just kind of stuck. The race track is a road on a ski resort (called Apex Mountain btw). Which is a pretty good indication that its gonna be epic. The other clue this race is gonna be epic is that it is held by skaters, who ensured that the event would be affordable and accomodate a freeride option. Kudos for that.

So find someone with a car, pack all your homies into it, and hit this race!

2016 Vancouver Chinatown Festival

Being in chinatown is awesome. The neighbourhood is one of the oldest in the city, filled with heritage buildings and loaded with stories. Its definitely something worth celebrating and involves all kinds of initiatives and businesses from the area. We couldn’t be more stoked with how the festival went this year, and will certainly be participating again for as long as we can.
