Flatspot Weekly: Skate Parkades! Orangatang Wheel Contest, The best of 2016 from The Homies and Alex Ameen, and some of our favorite set ups!

Welcome to the Flatspot Weekly, where we compile all the most notable and entertaining things in and around the store! Enjoy.

Here are a few highlights from the past week we thought worth sharing:

 

Vancouver Parkades – First Session of 2017

Skating is an inherently fun activity. But doing it with people is better. Doing it with people in parkades is quite possibly the best. Especially considering that there is an elevator to the top and Cariboo Brewing covers our extra curricular requirements. Frankly its better than friday, and its not even on friday! You might be beat the next day at work; tired, soar and delirious, but at least you will know that you are tired because you had fun and got gnar, not because the monotony of life and work has got you exhausted.

Session Details:

  • Meet at 9pm at the VAG on thursday (any thursday, ever).
  • Bring a board.
  • Wear a helmet.

Minion Hunt Orangatang Contest

We have another contest all you broke ass skaters! Channel your inner eight year old who could find waldo in every “Where’s Waldo” book, because your gonna have to find all the O-Tangs in this hoard of minions! The catch is, all the otangs are yellow 86a thane, hiding in and amidst many many minions who also happen to be poured in the same urethane facility. In fact, Orangatang doesn’t want you to know this, but they make their wheels out of DEAD MINIONS! So next time you core some a set of 86a orangatang wheels remember that there is someone at Pixar behind a desk balling their eyes out because you killed one of their beloved creations.

Contest Details

  • Everyone is eligible for THREE entries for a random draw to win a set of Orangatang Wheels.
    • Entry 1: Like and share the post/photo on Facebook OR instagram OR twitter.
    • Entry 2: Post the correct number of 86a Orangatang Wheels on the post/photo.
    • Entry 3: Find the one item in the crowd that IS NOT an Orangatang OR a minion.
  • In exactly 15 days (Jan 24th) we will tally up all the entries and pick a winner!
  • Winner gets to choose which hidden Orangatang wheel set they receive.

The Homies – Best of 2016

The Homies did a killer job of covering the globe this year. There are clips in this edit from japan, colombia, california, BC of course, and even the european race circuit. Which is fucking rad. Wanna see how skateboarding takers people places? Well, there you go, its right there.

Bad Decisions Alex – Best of 2016

Alex Owen Ameen is undisputedly the best follow car filmer in longboarding. There you have it. Disagree? Just watch this video, we don’t need to make an arguement, the facts are self apparent. He makes it look so easy that you should never, ever believe for even a second, that you can pull this off. As you can see from this video. People fall off their boards all the friggin time!

Water Squad – Best of 2016

Well – 2016 is over. Thank god. Election years always suck. But it wasn’t a sucky year for the Water Squad! Those fellas did a great job keeping on track and stacking clips. Its edits like these that make us proud to know the groms in Vancouver are rad and getting out there to find spots and shred new corners.

Loaded Bhangra

Long story short, the Loaded Bhangra is the quintessential longboard dancing board. The bamboo fibreglass construction keep it light and snappy, and resists water better than most boats. Its got the length needed for any and all cross steps, and kicktails that will have you cutting down trees with aggressive tiger claws. Not only that, but the graphic is designed by Adam Colton, which is wood burned into the board, never to be changed, like that tattoo of rap lyrics you got in highschool.

Sometimes old downhill boards fall out of popularity. But they function as well as they always did. Maple is maple and concave is concave. Right? So when we saw all the old Brandys, Laceys and other downhill division pin-up girls, that weren’t being given the love and attention they deserved, it was only fitting that Max breath some new life into them. Each of these boards is unique, numbered, signed and is only available here!

Cullen Arbuckle is THE MACHINE!

Behold. THE MACHINE! Would you like to know what vodka has to do with machines, and why that matters? Well, if you have 15 minutes, than this will teach you. But thats all beside the point. Cullen is quite possibly the most perpetually stoked, fun loving, utterly hilarious, dude who friggin shreds. Jake Ballantyne did a very good job of capturing this wonderful mans character. If you want to skate with Cullen, all you have to do is show up to a Learn to Stop session, and he will show you a whole new world (of skateboarding). Just don’t follow him ok?
