Harlen’s Skate Adventures: Spring Okanagan Skate
Flatspot team rider Harlen Terjesen makes his way to events, sessions and adventures of all sorts around the skate community and especially Coast Longboarding.
A couple weeks back he made pilgrimage from his home in Chinatown’s Highspot Skatehouse to the Spring Okanagan Skate for a few days of runs and fun fun with the homies.
While Harlen didn’t snap any photos himself, Studio Eleven Media // instagram/@11studio11/ did take a ton of great photos and has been nice enough to share them with everyone. We pulled a few bangers from a HUGE stack of great photos to highlight here. More great shots can be found in the google album here.
Here’s one of our favourites of Harlen from the trip, Raggie coming in hot behind him.
But then there was this gem sequence of Harlen and Nick Morin. As they head for the dirt, it looks like Harlen trying to give him a wedgie. Props for the My Pakage undies selection tho!
Harlen’s take on the adventure:
My friend Kaden and I decided we should go on a 10 day skate trip to the Okanogan and line up with the S.O.S. (Spring Okanogan Skate) trip that Josh Wutzke puts on every year. I had been to an S.O.S., and a couple other trips to interior BC, before so I kinda had an idea of where to camp for free and where to find a bunch of gnarly, and chundery hills full of giant pot holes. – thanks to Coast longboarding friends of course.
We headed out from Flatspot to the Kamploops Longboard park first, then to Penticton to go camp up a sick mountain road just outside of town. This road was the first open mountain road I ever skated on my own and I definitely love starting off a week of going fast with this hill. Eventually we made way to The Whole in Penticton and skated the only indoor mini ramp in town for hours, and listened to some rad live music.
Over the next few days we hit some skate parks, and some sweet Peachland hills. Friday camas around, which ment there was another show at The Whole, which ment alot more mini ramp skating. So back we went. The next day we hit giants head. I had been looking forward to skating the Giant since Kaden and I decided on the trip. I knew how many friends would be coming up to skate and it was going to be awesome!
After the first few runs, cameras came out and Studio Eleven Media stared taking some really nice shots. Only half way through the day, and tons went down. The cops had rolled through, it snowed at the top of the hill, and Team Green Raggie got a raw run of me. We skated a bunch more runs and eventually decided to call it a day. After getting food and finding the camp spot, we sat by the fire and knew how torched we would be the next day after hiking giants head.
Sunday was Vernon. But we had head out on our trip early and we needed a break from camping in a car for 10 days, so we decided to head back to Vancouver to recovery and return to life at home. All around an incredible trip!
