About the Ripper Artwork:
Arguably the most iconic skateboard graphic of all time, “The Ripper” was illustrated in 1983 by legendary Powell-Peralta artist V.C. Johnson. Originally the graphic was used as a “Bones Sold Here” dealer window sticker. Next, the artwork found it’s way onto t-shirts and eventually decks. The Ripper graphic has stood the test of time and has been a staple of the Powell-Peralta line for over 30 years.

About the Cab Street Artwork:
In 1987 street skating was rapidly gaining popularity. Steve Caballero not only excelled at vert skating but was a top contender on the “Street-Style” circuit. Powell-Peralta decided to introduce an additional Cab deck model specifically designed for street. Artist V.C. Johnson created a new dragon graphic with a bats & bones background. Cab’s name was also created in the bat shape since Cab was into Batman at the time. The Powell-Peralta logo was made using the Animal Chin font, also a sign of the times.

About the Frankie Hill Bulldog Art:
Santa Barbara local Frankie Hill was known for his “go for it” attitude, especially when filming videos. He was featured in Public Domain but Ban This features his breakout part, one minute and 38 seconds of what many today consider proof of Hill’s pioneering stunt work at big rails and huge gaps. After Ban This, Hill received bags of fan mail asking when he’s going to turn pro. The timing was good, too, as a spot opened up with Mike Vallely’s departure. Hill started riding Vallely’s shape, modified with a bigger nose, and on a vacation with Hastings, he poached a bulldog logo from an Amsterdam “coffee shop” and made it his first pro graphic. It was illustrated by Sean Cliver in 1990.
